Score: 4 / 5 Excellent
The Pro-Ject Phono Box MM is a compact, entry-level moving magnet (MM) phono preamplifier designed to convert phono signals to line-level outputs with audiophile accuracy. Housed in a small, shielded metal chassis with a discrete industrial aesthetic, the Phono Box MM can be easily positioned adjacent to a turntable or integrated seamlessly into an existing Hi-Fi audio rack without taking up valuable space.
Engineered around dual-mono internal circuitry and special low-noise ICs, the Phono Box MM delivers optimal channel separation while keeping total harmonic distortion under 0.04%. An external 18V DC power supply isolates sensitive internal amplification stages from AC mains noise, while gold-plated RCA input and output connectors ensure pristine signal transfer for budding vinyl enthusiasts.
KEY FEATURES & SYSTEM HIGHLIGHTS
- MM Cartridge Optimization: Specifically calibrated to provide 40 dB of gain and precise RIAA equalization for moving magnet (MM) cartridges.
- Shielded Metal Chassis: Compact, heavy-duty metal enclosure protects sensitive internal electronics from electromagnetic and radio frequency interference.
- Dual-Mono Circuit Topology: Independent left and right channel architecture utilizes specialized low-noise ICs for superior channel separation and low noise floor.
- Outboard Power Supply: External 18V DC power adapter eliminates mains transformer hum and electrical interference from the audio signal path.
- Gold-Plated RCA Connectivity: Features corrosion-resistant, gold-plated RCA input and output jacks for reliable signal transmission.
- Ultra-Compact Footprint: Minimalist design allows placement directly next to a turntable for short, low-capacitance cable runs.

Our Grading Guarantee
All equipment listed on this site undergoes a multi-point inspection by our staff. While we use a standardised 1–5 Grading Scale, please note that "pre-owned" implies some degree of previous life. We strive for transparency and use the following terms:
- Visual Inspection: Condition grades are subjective but applied conservatively. We provide high-resolution photography of the actual unit for sale (no stock photos). We encourage buyers to zoom in on all images as they constitute part of the formal product description.
- Functional Testing: Unless labelled Grade 1 , all units have been tested for power, input/output integrity, and basic mechanical operation. Vintage units (20+ years) are tested for "period-appropriate" functionality; unless specified, internal components like capacitors are original.
- "Fair" Exclusions: Items graded 1 (Fair) are sold strictly for parts or repair. These items are ineligible for returns, refunds, or "Item Not as Described" claims regarding their condition.
- Return Window: If a unit arrives in a condition significantly different than its assigned grade (e.g., a Grade 4 unit arrives with a shattered faceplate), you must notify us within 24 hours of delivery.

Looks "used" but has been respected.
Good
Functional, but shows its age.
Fair
Functional, but may have some damage or missing parts.
